Edmonton - Downtown

Tuesday, August 31 - We got up to sunshine this morning, and had a nice day.  The rain held off until the evening, which was a pleasant change.

Marilyn and Collins had a marathon day today, touring two museums and then the mall.  Dave and Mazie went with us to just do drive-arounds, after we walked the mall yesterday.  David had a sore foot today, so we took it pretty easy.  We worked our way downtown to the Visitor Center and drove past some of their big buildings.  The huge building right across the street from the Visitor Center is the Fairmont Hotel.

Edmonton is a pretty city, right on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River.

We took a historic streetcar across the river to the community of Old Strathcona, which used to be a separate town but has since been incorporated into Edmonton.  This ride is the world's highest streetcar river crossing, and it was only a 20-minute ride, but then we found an old English pub for lunch.
Here is the river below us.  After we got off the streetcar, we drove across the lower bridge in the car.

We got a pretty good view of the Legislative Building from the streetcar ride, and we also drove past it in the car.
We stopped for groceries at a Walmart on the way back to the campground, then I went up to do laundry (yes, laundry again).  While I was gone, Joe decided to dump our holding tanks, and he ran into problems.  I guess it's good that there are three parties to share the problems with, because we each have to take a turn with some kind of issue.  Ours, though, was a nasty one.  Our black holding tank wouldn't drain (yes, that's the one from the toilet).  Joe finally had to poke around in it from the top with a plastic pipe that David had, and then he hooked up the hose to the inside and flushed it from the top.  Joe is very sensitive to smells, and this is a job he did not enjoy.
He finally got it drained, and he flushed it a few times, so we hope we are back in business.  It seems that it was stopped up from toilet paper, which is supposed to dissolve, so we are going to have to keep an eye on that situation.  I'll let Joe handle that.
